Another year has begun and no doubt you’ve made some exciting plans for 2020. Maybe it’s getting a new job, maybe it’s a dream holiday or maybe you just want to have a healthier lifestyle. Whatever your plan for 2020, it’s imperative that you approach it with a clear mind and don’t let stress get in the way.

With that in mind, here are our top tips to help you stay stress-free and achieve your goals in 2020:

Be grateful – It’s easy to focus on negatives and get ‘bogged down’ with moaning and complaining. What can be harder is focussing on the good things in your life. A loving family, good friends, a nice house et al. Try to take the time to think about and be grateful for all the positive aspects of your life. You can even write a list if it helps, looking at it during difficult times can really enhance your mood and focus your mind.

Take time out – Yes, you really want to get all your work done as soon as possible. There’s so much to do and so little time. But you’re not a robot! You don’t have a bottomless pit of energy and enthusiasm. Over time, your productivity and quality of work will diminish if you don’t give yourself a break. Having regular 5-10 minute breaks can do wonders for your productivity in the long run. Go for a short walk, meditate or just watch a bit of television. It’s up to you, but make sure you find some ‘me time’ during a busy day.

Random acts of kindness – Of course, you’ve got big plans for 2020. However, try to make some time to be kind to others. Find time for small gestures like helping somebody with their shopping, making a charity donation or even the age old cliche of helping an old lady across the road. Not only are you helping others, but these seemingly tiny gestures can do wonders for your positivity.

Mistakes happen – The bad news is that you’re not perfect. The good news is that it doesn’t matter. Your going to make the odd typo (Yes, that one was deliberate!) and you’re going to say the wrong thing occasionally. Don’t let that get you down. You’re human, all humans make mistakes and will do forevermore. Everything does not have to be perfect, so don’t worry when it isn’t.

Keep it manageable – Not only are you not a robot, but you’re also not a machine. You get tired, you lose energy and you need a rest. You can’t do everything, so don’t try to. Manage your load, delegate tasks and maybe even ditch a few unnecessary jobs. Focus on what needs doing.

Let it go – Unfortunately, you’re not going to get on well with everyone you encounter in life. We all know people that we’d rather not have to deal with. But resentment can eat away at you and cause unhappiness. Try to let it go and accept people for who they are. It will make you happier in the long run.
